Concentrators

Concentrating Photovoltaic Systems (CPVs) are the next generation in solar technology that will be deployed in the coming years. The concentrator panels provide a practical solution to the high cost of solar cells by focusing sunlight onto smaller photovoltaic receivers. The smaller receivers require less active material, ultimately reducing costs.
OPEL Solar Inc. is committed to develop new and innovative technology to improve the performance and cost effectiveness of solar generated electricity. Through the use of highly efficient triple junction solar cells and high performance optics, OPEL Solar, Inc. has deployed grid connected concentrating photovoltaic systems in Europe, Asia and the Americas. OPEL Solar's technology is developed in cooperation with the University of Connecticut (Storrs, CT) and the National Research Council (Ottawa, ON). Currently, OPEL Solar's new technologies are the subject of almost forty filed patents, with nearly half already approved.

Mk-I High Concentration Photovoltaic Module

The OPEL Solar Mk-I High Concentration Photovoltaic Panel (HCPV) is a high performance, reliable, cost effective product designed for grid connected solar systems in medium to high solar irradiance climates. The Mk-I Panel uses a dual element refractive concentrator architecture, in combination with triple junction solar cells produced by Boeing-Spectrolab. The high efficiency of the OPEL Solar HCPV panel results in significantly higher power generation per unit of area when compared with both silicon flat panel and thin film installations.
