OPEL Technologies Inc. is a Company focused on continuing to develop the POET platform technology through its U.S. based affiliate, ODIS Inc. (an acronym for ‘OPEL Defense Integrated Systems’). POET (Planar Opto Electronic Technology) enables monolithic fabrication of integrated circuit gallium arsenide devices containing both electronic and optical elements on a single wafer. Dr. Geoff Taylor, the Company’s Chief Scientist, and his team have developed the technology over the past 18 years, in cooperation with the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT.
Until recently, the Company also designed, manufactured and marketed dual-axis and single-axis trackers, through its US based subsidiary, OPEL Solar, Inc. As global debt figures surged upward and subsidies for new energy technologies were trimmed, coupled with massive solar product inventory in the marketplace, all have led to ever decreasing margins within the solar industry. In December 2012, the Company successfully sold its Solar Division.
The Company has 37 patents issued and 13 patents pending in both its semiconductor POET process and for its PV systems.
OPEL’s common shares trade on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol “OPL” and on the OTCQX under the symbol OPELF.
The Company’s strategy going forward is to continue the aggressive research and development efforts put forth by, as is relates to the completion of the POET platform with a goal of the monetization of POET for the shareholders. POET enables the monolithic fabrication of integrated circuits containing both electronic and optical elements, with potential high-speed and power-efficient applications in devices such as servers, tablet computers and smart phone’s. POET when completed will allow ODIS to fundamentally alter the landscape of computing for a broad range of applications by offering components with dramatically lowered cost together with increased speed, density, and reliability.
Since the beginning, the community U.S. defense industry, having recognized the breakthrough potential of POET, accelerated its potential and currently remains a strong financial supporter of its development. Even through a downturn in military spending during 2011, POET remains in the forefront of those limited projects eligible for funding by them during 2012.
Recent technological strides within the POET development program have proven encouraging. The Company continues to progress work with BAE Systems in the independent validation of the technology. For more information visit the ODIS part of website (www.odisinc.com). |
